Opening of Fixed and Mobile Gear Mackerel Fisheries in 2J3KLPs

DFO advises that the mobile (purse seine) and fixed (gillnet, trap, handline, mechanical jigger, and bar seine, including tuck seine) gear mackerel fisheries for NAFO Divisions 2J3KLPs, Mackerel Fishing Areas 1 to 11, will open at 0600 hours on August 1, 2019.

For 2019, the minimum fish size for commercial mackerel retention is 268 mm as determined by the new stock assessment. Information regarding the Atlantic Mackerel Management Measures for 2019 can be found here: https://www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fisheries-peches/decisions/fm-2019-gp/atl-16-eng.html

All fish harvesters are reminded that in line with the dockside monitoring requirements for this fishery, all fish product must be weighed off at point of landing.

Licence conditions can be obtained through DFO's National On-line Licencing System.

The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Region gives notice that Variation Orders 2018-407 and 2018-408 have been revoked and Variation Orders 2019-181 and 2019-180 come into effect on July 30, 2019.
