MACKEREL MOBILE GEAR FISHERY OPENING IN WESTERN NL AREAS
DFO advises that the Mackerel purse seine fishery for vessels less than and greater than 65 feet, in Mackerel Fishing Areas 12, 13 and 14 (NAFO Divisions 4R3Pn) will open at 0600 hours on August 1, 2019.
For 2019, the minimum fish size for commercial mackerel retention is 268 mm as determined by the new stock assessment. Information regarding the Atlantic Mackerel Management Measures for 2019 can be found here: https://www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fisheries-peches/decisions/fm-2019-gp/atl-16-eng.html
All fish harvesters are reminded that in line with the dockside monitoring requirements for this fishery, all fish product must be weighed off at point of landing.
Fish harvesters must have At-Sea Observer coverage services arranged before commencing fishing.
Licence conditions can be obtained through DFO's National On-line Licencing System.
The Regional Director General, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador Regions gives notice that Variation Order 2018-407 has been revoked and Variation Order 2019-181 comes into effect on July 30, 2019.
